Responsibilities

  • As the technical authority for live athletic productions, you will be the lead control room producer and crew manager at Haas Pavilion for Cal Basketball, responsible for content creation and management, and the technical show caller for Cal Basketball. You will advise and help grow studio operations, broadcast, podcast, and content creation with your technical background.
  • Orchestrate the strategic integration of complex scripting, control room operations, and real-time show calling within high-stakes, unscripted environments, resolving unprecedented broadcast and venue issues to ensure a flawless entertainment experience.
  • Formulate a comprehensive fan-experience strategy that aligns multi-departmental goals (marketing, sponsorship, broadcast production) into a powerful emotional narrative and elevates the brand. Architect a professional-grade training ecosystem, scaling and mentoring a student workforce to execute elite productions with precision.
  • Show Direction & Executive Production: Serve as the technical show caller and be responsible for content creation and management for all home Cal Basketball games; oversee end-to-end production of video board, control room operations, video board integration, and musical atmosphere to deliver a premier entertainment experience.
  • Strategic Brand & Revenue Integration: Align marketing campaigns, sponsorship activations, and NIL initiatives into the live show flow; transform commercial requirements into high-energy entertainment segments that drive partner ROI and department revenue.
  • Talent Recruitment & Mentorship: Mobilize and supervise a scalable workforce of students and interns; design a professional-level training program that mentors staff in live production, technical execution, and brand-consistent storytelling.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Synchronize with Facilities, Operations, Marketing, and Spirit squads to ensure seamless logistics; act as the primary point of contact for integrating departmental goals into the live event framework.
  • Innovation & Experience Design: Lead the evolution of gameday traditions by integrating emerging technology (motion graphics, lighting, mobile apps, AI) and data-driven fan feedback to modernize the atmosphere and attract elite recruits and brands.
  • Budgeting & Strategy: Manage gameday entertainment budgets, track expenses, and evaluate fan engagement using feedback and data to improve future events.
  • Quality Control & Post-Event Analysis: Govern the post-game review process by analyzing fan sentiment and production performance; implement continuous improvements to maintain high-quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Expert ability to direct live, multi-camera productions, cueing audio, video, lighting, and on-field talent with precision.
  • Deep knowledge of professional broadcast hardware and show-flow software.
  • Ability to create dynamic and compelling motion graphics for the video board.
  • Skill in drafting minute-by-minute Rundowns of Show (ROS) that integrate technical cues with entertainment segments.
  • Proficiency in integrating modern fan-engagement tools like synchronized LED lighting, mobile app triggers, and AI-driven content.
  • Ability to translate corporate partner KPIs into organic, high-energy in-venue moments that drive ROI without losing the crowd.
  • Skill in analyzing fan sentiment and attendance data to engineer emotional arcs that increase loyalty and revenue.
  • Understanding of brand storytelling to ensure every video, graphic, and announcement reinforces the Cal identity.
  • Knowledge of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) regulations to highlight student-athletes within the live show flow.
  • Problem-solving, multi-tasking, ability to work with frequent interruptions, and effective listening.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills for lower-level staff.
  • Time and project management skills to set priorities and meet deadlines for self and team.
  • Interpersonal and people-management skills to interact with clients, staff, and vendors.
  • Fiscal responsibility to plan and manage the Gameday Entertainment budget.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and scheduling numerous students/interns across multiple events.
  • Ability to synchronize goals between units and familiarity with elite NCAA conference or professional sports production benchmarks.
  • Knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the ACC, NCAA, and other relevant associations to avoid violations.
  • Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications relevant to job duties.

Salary & Benefits

For information on the comprehensive benefits package: see the UC Berkeley Compensation & Benefits information. The budgeted salary range for this position is $65,000 - $95,000. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), exempt position eligible for UC Benefits.
