Associate Director, Technical Production (5174U) – UC Berkeley

Responsibilities

  • Lead control room production for Cal Basketball events at Haas Pavilion; serve as technical show caller and manage content creation & management for all home games.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end video board production, control room operations, and musical atmosphere to deliver a professional‑grade fan experience.
  • Coordinate with marketing, sponsorship, NIL initiatives, and other departments to embed commercial content organically into the live show flow.
  • Mentor a scalable student and intern workforce; design and implement a training program for live production and storytelling.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Operations, Marketing, and Spirit squads to synchronize logistics and ensure seamless event execution.
  • Drive innovation by integrating emerging technology (motion graphics, lighting, mobile apps, AI, data‑driven fan feedback) to modernize the event experience.
  • Manage gameday entertainment budgets, track expenses, and use data to refine future events.
  • Analyze fan sentiment and production performance post‑event; implement continuous improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Expertise in directing live, multi‑camera broadcasts with audio, video, lighting, and on‑field talent.
  • Deep knowledge of professional broadcast hardware and show‑flow software.
  • Ability to create dynamic motion graphics for the video board.
  • Strong skill in drafting minute‑by‑minute rundown of show (ROS) integrating technical cues and entertainment segments.
  • Proficiency in modern fan‑engagement tools such as LED lighting, mobile app triggers, and AI‑driven content.
  • Experience translating corporate partner KPIs into in‑venue moments while maintaining crowd engagement.
  • Data‑analysis skills to engineer emotional arcs that increase loyalty and revenue.
  • Solid brand storytelling knowledge to reinforce Cal identity across all media.
  • Familiarity with NIL regulations and ability to integrate student‑athletes into the show flow.
  • Strong problem‑solving, multitasking, and effective listening skills.
  • Coaching and mentorship experience with lower‑level staff.
  • Project and time‑management skills to meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fiscal responsibility and ability to manage the gameday entertainment budget.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and scheduling students/interns for simultaneous events.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and conference production standards; up‑to‑date on Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA rules.
  • Advanced program activity knowledge and best practices.
  • Proficiency with relevant computer applications.

Salary & Benefits

Base salary range: $65,000 – $95,000 per year.

  • Full‑time (40 hours per week), exempt monthly‑paid position.
  • Eligible for UC benefits.
