Environmental Acoustics Scientist (CG06)
FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS), an ADEC Innovation, is hiring an Environmental Acoustics Scientist to perform environmental noise and vibration impact assessments that support CEQA and NEPA compliance. Core responsibilities include conducting field noise monitoring, preparing noise models using tools such as TNM and SoundPLAN, evaluating regulatory thresholds, and drafting high‑quality technical analyses. The position supports multiple project managers, contributes to environmental impact reports, and provides guidance on best practices for noise assessment and mitigation.

Salary:

$77,000 - $90,000 Annually

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct project research, data collection and analysis, report and proposal writing, and support business development efforts related to noise and vibration impact analysis.

Perform quantitative noise and vibration impact assessments in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.

Field work may include noise monitoring and other data collection to support preparation of technical reports and models.

Support multiple project teams focused on assessment of plans and projects in urban, suburban, and rural settings.

Provide analysis for site development projects and general plan implementation projects, including the development of general plan or municipal code policies and ordinances.

Coordinate effectively with multiple project managers, prioritizing and completing high‑quality work within specified deadlines and budgets.

Demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and experience working in a team‑oriented environment.

Skills

Proficient in Word and Excel.

Proficient with noise models and performing off‑model calculations; model experience preferred includes FHWA Highway Traffic Noise Prediction Model (FHWA RD‑77‑108), FHWA Roadway Construction Model, FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM), SoundPLAN.

Experience with AERMOD, CalEEMod, ArcGIS, and other modeling software.

Strong research, writing, mathematical/scientific, analytical, and verbal communication skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.

Self‑motivation and resourcefulness in completing assigned tasks.

Experience with ArcGIS is a plus.

Education and Experience Requirements

5‑7 years of experience in environmental services, including air quality, greenhouse gas emission inventory quantification, and modeling skills with CalEEMod.

Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related field.

Experience preparing stand‑alone noise technical studies in compliance with CEQA.

Physical Demands
The role requires frequent talking and hearing, hand/finger dexterity, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will spend extended periods in front of a computer or laptop. Field work requires physical endurance to walk over a variety of terrains and weather conditions, including extreme heat, and to lift at least 10 lbs. and walk or hike.
