Beacon Communications is seeking a highly experienced Biamp Vocia Systems Technician to support service, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and SMA obligations for large-scale, enterprise-level Vocia paging and life-safety systems. The salary range for this role is between $30.00/hour - $45.00/hour, commensurate on relevant education, experience, and other factors.

This role also includes Audio Visual (AV) service and SMA support for integrated AV control, DSP, and audio systems. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and optimization of Crestron, QSC Q-SYS, and AMX platforms deployed in government and enterprise environments.

This role is not entry-level. It requires deep, hands-on expertise with Biamp Vocia architecture, including distributed networks, redundant controllers, life-safety paging, emergency logic, zone routing, monitoring, and system health management. The technician will be responsible for maintaining mission-critical paging systems where uptime, intelligibility, and compliance matter.

Job Qualifications

3+ years of hands-on experience supporting Biamp Vocia systems in government environments.

Demonstrated experience supporting professional AV systems in enterprise or government environments.

Working knowledge of AV control systems including Crestron and/or AMX.

Working knowledge of QSC Q-SYS DSP platforms and audio signal flow.

Ability to troubleshoot integrated systems spanning AV control, DSP, networking, and paging.

Demonstrated experience with large, distributed Vocia systems.

Crestron, AMX, QSC certifications.

Vocia system architecture and network topology knowledge.

Paging zones, groups, priorities, and logic knowledge.

Redundancy, fault monitoring, and system health reporting knowledge.

Emergency paging, alarm integration, and life-safety workflows knowledge.

Strong proficiency with Biamp Vocia Software, firmware management, and system diagnostics.

Advanced understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, multicast, QoS, Dante vs Vocia transport).

Ability to read and interpret as-built drawings, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, and network schematics.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Ability to pass background check (CJIS / government environments).

Key Responsibilities
Service & SMA Execution

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on Biamp Vocia systems per SMA requirements.

Conduct system health checks, fault log reviews, redundancy verification, and firmware audits.

Validate paging intelligibility, zone coverage, priority logic, and failover behavior.

Produce clear SMA reports outlining findings, risks, and recommended corrective actions.

Troubleshooting & Support

Diagnose and resolve complex Vocia system issues including paging, AV control, DSP, and networked AV systems where platforms are integrated or interdependent.

Resolve audio dropouts, paging failures, and zone misrouting.

Resolve network-related issues impacting paging transport.

Diagnose device faults, controller failover events, and monitoring alarms.

Support emergency paging incidents with urgency, accuracy, and professionalism.

Work independently in live environments without disrupting critical operations.

Configuration & Optimization

Make advanced configuration changes within Vocia software (zones, routing, logic, monitoring).

Perform firmware updates safely in mission-critical systems.

Assist engineering and programming teams with system optimization and long-term reliability improvements.

Documentation & Client Communication

Document all service activities, findings, and resolutions thoroughly.

Communicate clearly with client IT, facilities, and public safety stakeholders.

Identify system risks, end-of-life components, and future upgrade needs.

Professional Standards

Maintain a clean, organized service vehicle and toolset.

Adhere to safety standards, site protocols, and manufacturer best practices.

Represent Beacon Communications professionally in sensitive client environments.
