Summary The Unconventional (TU) is seeking a qualified Malay Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). The role includes translating a variety of documents and media, providing court and deposition interpretation, and handling sensitive legal materials that require strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Translate written and electronic documents, audio and video content.
Transcribe and interpret legal documents and media.
Ensure accuracy, preserve tone and register, and comply with ethics.
Use Computer‑Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, primarily SDL Trados Studio.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the past ten years in the required language and superior skills in English and editing.
Qualifying scores ILR 4 minimum or equivalent.
Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive).
Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication, including colloquial slang and regionalisms.
Know specialized vocabulary and terminology in both languages related to the government’s roles and missions.
Write fluently in the native language and possess professional command of the non‑native language.
Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions.
Preserve the tone and register of source language materials.
Abide by the relevant code of linguist ethics.
Proficient in using Computer‑Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with a strong emphasis on SDL Trados Studio.
Security Clearance Active Public Trust or higher security clearance.
Travel Some travel may be required.
