Account Director, Public Relations (B2B Technology)
Account Directors on Highwire’s B2B Technology team lead high-impact, integrated communications programs for fast-growth and enterprise technology brands. They bring deep expertise across sectors such as enterprise software, AI, cloud, and data infrastructure, translating complex technology concepts into compelling narratives that drive business results.
In this role, Account Directors oversee 4–5 account teams, providing strategic leadership, senior client counsel, and mentorship. They ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery while guiding clients on positioning, storytelling, and visibility initiatives. Account Directors also play a critical role in agency growth, thought leadership, and developing a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead B2B technology clients across enterprise software, AI, cloud, and data infrastructure sectors.
- Develop integrated communications strategies that drive brand credibility, awareness, and business impact.
- Provide senior-level counsel on messaging, positioning, media engagement, and thought leadership initiatives.
- Translate complex technology topics into compelling, business-relevant stories.
- Serve as the senior client lead, ensuring deliverables meet or exceed expectations.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for organic growth within existing accounts.
- Partner with clients on executive visibility and product storytelling initiatives.
- Manage budgets, forecast hours, and allocate resources efficiently across teams.
Media & Influencer Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier business, tech, and trade media.
- Drive thought leadership programs and creative storytelling that elevate client visibility.
- Oversee data-driven and trend-based pitching to secure meaningful media coverage.
- Leverage digital and social channels strategically to amplify earned media and audience engagement.
- Stay ahead of media and market trends to provide proactive, strategic guidance.
Agency Operations & Leadership
- Manage 3–4 direct reports, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Support new business initiatives, from research and ideation through pitch presentation.
- Contribute to agency marketing and thought leadership efforts, including award submissions, case studies, and blog content.
- Champion Highwire’s culture of inclusion, empowerment, and collaboration.
- Represent Highwire at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
Team Development
- Coach and mentor account teams to ensure clarity on responsibilities, client goals, and strategic priorities.
- Foster a collaborative environment where team members can grow professionally and creatively.
- Lead by example, maintaining high standards of professionalism, accountability, and client service.
Success Factors
- 7+ years of PR or communications experience in an agency setting.
- Deep experience managing B2B technology clients, including enterprise, SaaS, cloud, AI, or data-focused brands.
- Proven success developing and executing integrated communications programs that deliver measurable business results.
- Strong understanding of the B2B technology media and analyst landscape.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated strategic leadership and client management experience.
- Established media relationships within business, technology, and trade sectors.
- Experience mentoring and managing high-performing teams.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to identify and act on growth opportunities.
- Creative, collaborative, and confident communicator, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000, with the final offer based on a combination of factors, including education, relevant experience, skills, prior training, internal equity, and local geographic market data. Hybrid and Remote Work Options
Hybrid: Candidates located within commuting distance of our New York, NY or San Francisco, CA offices follow a hybrid schedule, with three in-office days per week.
