Purpose of the Position
The Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Communications is responsible for gathering and providing information to the public on specific and assigned men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics programs, and assists with public relations activities within intercollegiate athletics, serving as a liaison between intercollegiate athletics and the media. The incumbent will develop and maintain an effective presence with web and new media associated with the UAH Athletics department. This position manages all marketing related to sponsorships and corporate sales, and assists in the overall management of marketing and promotion for UAH athletics.

Duties / Responsibilities

Supervises management of the internal administrative functions and daily operations of the Athletics Communications Office, monitoring the completion of assigned activity responsibilities and evaluating progress toward established goals and objectives.

Ensures that information about the University’s intercollegiate athletics programs is available to the public in a timely and effective manner, assisting in the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive program of sports coverage.

Helps plan and execute major special events, research records, write scripts, and provide background material to highlight achievements of teams and individuals.

Handles computer statistics for UAH sporting events, completing official statistics for soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball using automated scorebook computer programs.

Oversees statistics and records for all UAH varsity sports, managing Conference and National weekly reports to ensure accurate records of athletic events and compliance with NCAA and Conference rules.

Assists in the development and distribution of various publications for men’s and women’s sports programs and oversees the set‑up and tear‑down of equipment for sports events.

Acts as a game manager for home athletic events and supervises students, volunteers, and contract personnel.

Completes post‑game reports and distributes them to appropriate personnel, including opponents and media.

Abides by and complies with NCAA and Conference rules, academic standards, and University policies, reporting any concerns of compromise or violation of rules to the appropriate director.

Maintains professional knowledge and competency through self‑directed professional reading and networking.

Develops, implements, and manages marketing and promotions in support of the athletics department.

Evaluates program activities and submits progress reports for individual and corporate sales.

Identifies and researches potential major corporate buyers and organizational buyers.

Analyzes strategies to generate revenue from sports offerings, excluding fundraising.

Manages all advertisement of athletics in print, press, web, and media, designing and publishing brochures for sponsorship buys.

Prepares conference reports for GSC and CHA, as well as NCAA, AVCA, NFCA, including preseason, weekly, and postseason reports.

Organizes and maintains files for record keeping.

Coordinated game staff, stat crews, announcers, and music.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Sports Information, Sports Management, Media Relations, or Broadcasting, 3–5 years of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Experience managing websites.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Previous supervisory experience.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.

Experience in athletic administration preferred.

Published Salary
$55,000 – $60,000
