Director of Stewardship
Location: Cheney, WA
Salary: $60,301 – $72,370 (depending on education, experience, and skills)
Term of Appointment: 12 months
Job Summary
The Director of Stewardship provides strategic leadership and oversight for an institution‑wide stewardship program. The role designs, implements, and documents stewardship practices across donor recognition, stewardship of funds, and stewardship ecosystem, ensuring alignment with the mission of the EWU Foundation and fostering long‑term philanthropic support.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and document a comprehensive stewardship system covering donors, funds, and the stewardship ecosystem.
Ensure donors are systematically recognized and informed of their impact through personalized stewardship recognition activities.
Oversee and report on endowed and non‑endowed funds, ensuring accurate and timely expenditure of donated capital.
Develop and maintain stewardship policies, procedures, and best practices, collaborating across departments to ensure consistency.
Coordinate stewardship activities with the Office of Philanthropy, Marketing & Communications, Advancement Services, and other stakeholders.
Manage stewardship and event budgets, and lead major stewardship events such as the Red Tie Gala.
Monitor stewardship trends and practices, advocating for continuous improvement and innovation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
At least three years of relevant experience in a development‑related role within higher education.
Knowledge of CRM systems and their use in stewardship.
Proven track record managing major donor stewardship or annual fund programs.
Strong ethical foundation and respect for donor confidentiality.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with colleagues and donors.
Strong organizational and detail‑oriented skills.
Positive attitude, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
Commitment to inclusive and responsive stewardship practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience planning donor‑facing events.
Higher‑education experience.
Experience managing a stewardship program.
