Position Summary
Director of Stewardship – provides strategic leadership and oversight for an institution‑wide stewardship program at Eastern Washington University. The role designs, implements, and documents stewardship systems in three categories: high‑level donor stewardship, stewardship of donated funds, and stewardship ecosystem across all pipelines.
Responsibilities
Develop and communicate customized donor stewardship plans and implement them with relevant colleagues.
Plan and facilitate donor recognition and engagement events, including special recognition and milestone events.
Provide leadership and direction for Office of Philanthropy and Annual Giving, ensuring timely and accurate stewardship across the university.
Maintain guidelines, procedures, and reporting for university‑wide donor recognition and philanthropic naming policies.
Oversee stewardship of endowed and non‑endowed funds, ensuring funds are used fully and proactively resolve issues.
Collaborate with Advancement Services to improve gift processing, donor receipting, database reporting, and adherence to donor intent.
Lead planning of major stewardship events such as the Red Tie Gala and other special recognition events.
Maintain stewardship and event budgets, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
At least three years of experience in a development‑related role in an educational environment, preferably higher education.
Knowledge of CRM use and purpose.
Proven track record managing major donor stewardship or annual fund programs.
Strong fundraising ethics and confidentiality practices.
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and donors.
Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
Positive attitude, flexible approach, and sense of humor.
Ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that supports accessible services for all stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience planning donor‑facing events.
Higher education experience.
Experience managing a stewardship program.
Other Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
High level organizational skills.

Conditions of Employment: responsible for receipt or accountability of university funds or other items of value; background check required; must comply with the university immunization policy and may need to complete required training via Canvas.
Physical Demands: essential functions include handling materials and equipment; applicants should be able to meet physical requirements as described in the Essential Functions Analysis form.
Benefits
Salary range $60,301 – $72,370, depending on education, experience, and skills.
