Job Summary
Under the direction of the Archivist, the Strout Family Photographic Post-baccalaureate Fellow works to arrange, describe, digitize, and publicize historic photographic collections within the department, including the photographs of Leon B. Strout, a noted Brunswick-based photographer active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Fellow works closely and collaboratively with archivists in the department to learn and apply archival standards and best practices while housing, arranging, and describing photographic prints and negatives. The Fellow also builds out digital access to the collections by digitizing and describing images according to established departmental procedures and posting them through the Library's digital collections platform as well as externally hosted databases to ensure maximum discoverability and use of the collections. The Fellow promotes and facilitates access to the collections through outreach programs, exhibitions, the creation of printed promotional material, and collaboration with other cultural property organizations, including the local historical society.
This is a two-year term position. The compensation is expected to be $51,000 annually.

Education and Skills Requirements
Required: A Bachelor's degree completed prior to start date.
Familiarity or experience with archival best practices, including those related to research, processing, and/or digitization; basic familiarity with current approaches to digitization, image manipulation, file management, and/or metadata creation.
Experience with detail-oriented work. Evidence of ability to attend to accuracy, attention to detail and discretion, and the necessity for confidentiality.
Preferred: Familiarity with the social and cultural history of Midcoast Maine.
Experience Requirements and Equivalents
Some experience with archival research, description, metadata creation, and/or digitization experience, which can include paid, volunteer, student, or internship experience.
Facility with spreadsheets and databases.
Knowledge of photographic processes and/or history.
Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google suite for work purposes.
Standard Work Days and Hours
Hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Schedules may vary to meet operational needs. This is an exempt position requiring time commitment necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements.
