Our ideal candidate will be a dynamic, experienced broadcaster and leader who can both anchor on-air content and drive editorial strategy across our broadcast, digital and CTV platforms.

The position requires strong news judgment, excellent communication skills, deep knowledge of the Central Valley or the ability to develop it quickly, and the ability to pitch, develop, and execute compelling local content.

Our new Anchor/Producer will collaborate with producers and reporters to deliver high-quality, engaging programming to the Bakersfield market.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable in front of the camera and behind the scenes, with a strong understanding of social media, digital distribution, and audience engagement.

He or she must know our be able to promptly learn OBS system producing.

Duties include producing and anchoring a 60-minute news show Monday through Friday. This show will be seen on our streaming channel, KGET+ and may be simulcast on KGET. The anchor/producer will conceive of relevant, interesting topics, book guests for the show and promote the show on all platforms.

Other duties may include developing other shows or segments for CTV; fill-in anchoring on other KGET platforms; mentoring colleagues; emceeing public events; and other duties as directed by the news director.

Ability to arrange, shoot, write, edit news stories for broadcast.

Requirements & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

Fluency in English

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required

Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)

Superior on-air presence

Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment

Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Flexibility to work any shift

Pay range: Starting at $20 - $23 per hour, depending on experience.
