Shatterproof is a national nonprofit working toward a world where addiction never defines or ends a life. Through evidence-based programs, advocacy, and public education, Shatterproof works to transform systems for tomorrow, support families today, and end stigma forever.
Shatterproof is in a period of transformative and rapid growth. We are building new systems, reimagining how work gets done, and creating more cross-functional alignment to accelerate our mission. To thrive here, you should be energized by building, not just maintaining — and excited to bring structure, clarity, and innovation to evolving spaces. We're looking for team members who:
Build systems and processes from the ground up and improve them continuously as we scale.
Take ownership and act with a builder's mindset, bringing forward solutions rather than waiting for direction.
Influence and collaborate across teams, shaping work through strong communication and relationship-building.
Move quickly, learn fast, and adapt with resilience, especially in a high-growth, high-impact environment.
Are mission-driven and motivated to leave their mark on an organization working to reverse the addiction crisis.
About the Role
The Multimedia Designer brings Shatterproof's mission to life visually across all channels — transforming data, stories, and campaigns into compelling creative that informs, inspires, and mobilizes action. This role produces design and multimedia assets for digital, social, and print platforms, ensuring brand consistency and excellence across all visual touchpoints. The ideal candidate is a multidisciplinary designer who combines strong graphic design fundamentals with proficiency in video editing and data visualization. They know how to turn complex information into visually engaging narratives — whether through social graphics, infographics, motion videos, or interactive visuals — and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design visually compelling assets and templates for social media, email campaigns, web content, events, and print materials — ensuring alignment with Shatterproof's brand identity and mission.
Create data visualizations and infographics that translate research, impact metrics, and program results into clear, accessible, and shareable visuals.
Produce video and motion graphics content optimized for social platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube, LinkedIn) and website storytelling.
Edit short-form and long-form videos, including testimonials, Walk highlights, and executive messaging.
Support the development of presentations, one-pagers, and campaign collateral for internal and external audiences.
Help develop and manage Shatterproof's YouTube presence, including channel organization, thumbnails, titles, descriptions, and SEO best practices.
Manage relationships with freelance photographers and videographers for events, campaigns, and field capture (briefing, shot lists, deliverables, timelines, intake, organization).
Collaborate with internal teams to produce cohesive creative aligned to editorial and campaign calendars.
Maintain and evolve Shatterproof's brand-style guide, templates, and design systems.
Collaboration & Strategy
Participate in creative planning sessions to conceptualize visuals that support campaign objectives and audience insights.
Implement best practices for metadata, tagging, naming conventions, and usage rights tracking.
Work closely with the Director of Strategic Communications to ensure design aligns with organizational storytelling and earned media moments.
Partner with the Senior Manager of Direct Response to adapt creative for paid campaigns and web optimization.
Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing creative excellence with timely delivery.
Qualifications
3–5 years' experience in graphic design, motion graphics, or multimedia content production (nonprofit or agency background preferred).
Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and Canva.
Strong skills in video editing and motion design, including short-form and social-first formats.
Proven ability to create data visualizations and infographics that make complex information digestible and engaging.
Experience designing for multiple platforms (social, web, print, and presentation).
Familiarity with accessibility and inclusivity standards in design.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Passionate about Shatterproof's mission and eager to advance social impact through visual storytelling.
Preferred Skills
Experience with animation, 3D graphics, or interactive visualization tools (e.g., Flourish, Tableau, Datawrapper).
Familiarity with content management systems and digital asset management tools.
Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS or UX/UI best practices a plus.
About Shatterproof
ABOUT SHATTERPROOF:
Shatterproof was founded in 2013 to fill the gap for a well-funded, national, coordinated effort to reverse the course of the addiction health crisis, with the singular goal of ending the devastation addiction is causing our families. To achieve this, Shatterproof has identified three priority pillars: revolutionizing the treatment system, breaking down addiction-related stigma, and supporting and empowering our communities.
Recognizing the gap in stigma reduction efforts across the nation, Shatterproof has quickly become a leader in the space. In 2020, Shatterproof launched a national movement to End Addiction Stigma to address this gap and catalyze efforts to reduce addiction-related stigmas. Based on extensive interviews, literature reviews, and case studies, we believe that effectively addressing stigma is a critical, cutting-edge component of combatting this crisis–and every individual and institution in the U.S. has an important role to play. Accordingly, Shatterproof has identified six systems that will have the largest impact on those with substance use disorder (SUD): employers, healthcare, government, criminal justice, media & entertainment, and local communities. Currently Shatterproof plays an integral role in Pennsylvania’s statewide addiction stigma reduction behavior change campaign, as well as a healthcare pilot in the state, and is leading a new statewide effort in Kentucky.
In addition to this work, in January 2021, Shatterproof hosted a virtual panel during the historic National Day of Service, at the request of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. In June 2021, Shatterproof was a founding partner in delivering the inaugural Stigma of Addiction summit, which will be hosted on an annual basis. The summit brought together leading experts from universities, health systems, nonprofit organizations, and governments as presenters and speakers, and over 4,500 participants registered to attend. Lastly, but certainly not least, the National Stigma Team released the Shatterproof Addiction Stigma Index in October 2021, which was the most comprehensive survey of addiction stigma ever fielded to assess attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors of the general public of individuals with an SUD.
In the past year, the National Stigma Initiative has seen exponential growth and we will continue to scale our programs across the country in 2022 and beyond. Thus, the National Stigma Initiative is looking to onboard a Digital Ad Manager to support the growing needs of our state-based stigma reduction campaigns.
