Director of Audience & Engagement Analytics

The DAI (Data, Analytics & Insights) organization drives strategic and operational decisions for the company. As Director of Audience & Engagement Analytics you will report to the Vice President of Data, Analytics & Insights and work closely with newsroom, product, engineering, advertising, and finance teams on projects that have a critical and strategic impact.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross‑function leads (audience, product, design, engineering) across multiple teams to establish strategic roadmap, OKRs, and priorities.
  • Optimize revenue from audience and products using audience strategies, customer segmentation, and engagement tactics to increase engagement, revenue and profitability.
  • Understand customer behavior and preferences; collaborate with stakeholders on customer insights to create targeted campaigns and personalized product offerings.
  • Contribute as a key collaborator and thought leader for initiatives and projects that meet organization goals.
  • Manage and communicate the analytics roadmap and deliverables.
  • Lead, hire, onboard, and develop analytics talent and culture within the larger analytics organization.
  • Oversee the quality and direction of the analytics team's work and represent the team at the executive level.
  • Collaborate with other Data & Analytics teams on cross‑mission projects and identify partnership opportunities across teams.
  • Oversee designs and analyze experiments to improve Growth KPIs for digital subscribers.
  • Educate and improve internal processes to promote innovation and best practices within the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years professional experience in audience, content, customer or product analytics.
  • 3+ years experience managing analytics professionals.
  • Deep expertise in audience analytics, content measurement, and product analytics—ideally within a media, subscription, or digital product environment.
  • People leadership experience in directing team members to build analytics solutions, data products, reporting, experimentation, acquisition and retention modeling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in experiment design, measurement, analysis, and modeling.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, media research tools (Comscore, Nielsen) and custom dashboards.
  • Experience measuring effectiveness of marketing channels (search, social, email).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work seamlessly with multiple stakeholders including executives.
  • Knowledge of privacy‑compliant data practices and evolving trends in audience targeting and measurement.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and Big Data tools.
  • Experience with Tableau and Web Analytics systems like Google Analytics.

Salary

Salary range: $144,600 – $241,100 per year. Actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program.
