Job Summary

Position responsible for providing leadership, direction and support for one or more patient care departments, ensuring the delivery of quality care to patients; and for planning, implementing, reviewing and controlling the budget, staffing, and robust process improvement.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Nursing degree from an accredited school of professional nursing required.
Masters Degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications

Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing.
Professional Certification in clinical area or management within one year of hire preferred.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills

Five (5) years of progressive clinical experience; see attached Table 1 for Direction I-IV leveling.
Principal Accountabilities

Direct the day-to-day operations for assigned patient care departments, maintaining 24/7 operational responsibility and directing clinical and non-clinical staff.
Review and approve all new hires, establish and control standards for performance appraisals, and work with managers to identify staffing needs and provide accordingly.
Coordinate training needs of staff with the education department, remain available, accessible and visible to staff, recognize staff’s achievements and provide ongoing feedback on performance.
Collaborate with service line leaders and managers to establish departmental scope of service, goals, and strategic plan; stay up-to-date on new developments and incorporate them into the department’s scope.
Review departmental policies, procedures, and systems; conduct appropriate promotional activities and participate in hospital market activities.
Monitor and direct all patient care activities, ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards and optimizing the patient experience.
Participate in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, client-centered outcomes, and organizational outcomes.
Ensure revenue, expenses, contribution margin, and FTEs meet or exceed budget; prepare and submit budget and related reports; forecast and project expenses; take corrective action for negative variances; identify and propose capital budget items appropriately.
Promote physician input and communication; include medical staff in planning new or revised policies, procedures, and services; provide rapid response and follow-up to medical staff issues and concerns; seek new ways to encourage new physicians to utilize hospital services.
Adhere to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing requirements and standards.
Perform other duties as assigned, within scope of practice and clinical competency.
Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals that contribute to organizational success; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
