Position Overview
The Managing Editor supports the
Denver Quarterly
in a non‑benefitted, twelve‑month appointment (July – June). The role involves collaborating closely with the journal’s Editor and Associate Editor to manage business operations, coordinate production workflows, and oversee marketing and subscription activities.
Essential Functions
Coordinate marketing objectives, including subscriber renewal, social media, print and digital initiatives, and alumni outreach.
Partner with internal and external resources to conduct fundraising initiatives focused on support for the journal, including gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
Manage the subscription list to ensure accurate print runs; liaise with partners such as EBSCO and Harassowitz and maintain quarterly NCOA scrubs.
Assist with the production process for electronic and print volumes, as well as promotional materials.
Coordinate mailings, process returns, and communicate with contributors regarding issue shipments.
Handle additional digital content production on FIVES, including communication with authors, coordinating final edits and formatting, and publishing accepted works.
Required Qualifications
Availability throughout the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
Previous experience with the publication process for literary arts journals.
Work Schedule
The position runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The University’s flexible work policy allows potential partial remote work, subject to departmental needs.
Compensation
Base salary is $2,000 annually for dedicated work with subscriptions and distribution. Additional contract payments may be available, including a $1,000 summer stipend and up to $1,000 for new digital collections on FIVES ($500 per collection). Fringe benefits are covered by the journal’s operating funds.
