Senior Motion Designer

The Sage Group's client, an AI safety and research company working to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems — with a mission to ensure AI is safe and beneficial for both customers and society — is seeking a Sr Motion Designer. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with product marketers and brand designers to create engaging product feature demos that showcase the power and potential of our AI systems. You'll play a crucial role in helping audiences understand and connect with our technology through thoughtful animation and motion graphics that make complex AI concepts accessible and inspiring. As a Motion Designer, you'll have the opportunity to work at the forefront of AI innovation, translating cutting-edge research and product developments into visual narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. Your work will directly support our mission to ensure AI systems are safe, beneficial, and widely understood.
Responsibilities:
Partner with product marketers and brand designers to conceptualize and execute engaging product feature demonstrations
Create compelling motion graphics and animations that bring AI features to life through clear, accessible storytelling
Produce content ranging from light video editing of screen recordings to sophisticated product animations and motion design
Provide edits and cutdowns, including music and sound edits
Develop visual narratives that effectively communicate complex AI capabilities to both technical and non-technical audiences
Collaborate across teams to ensure brand consistency and alignment with client's visual identity
Iterate on designs based on feedback from stakeholders and performance metrics
Stay current with motion design trends and techniques to continuously elevate the quality of our visual communications
Contribute to the development of design systems and best practices for motion and animation across the organization
You may be a good fit if you:
Have 10+ years designing motion for brand, product, or editorial, with a portfolio that includes at least one motion system you've built end to end — not only polished one-offs.
Have significant experience in animation and motion graphics, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your storytelling abilities
Are proficient in industry-standard motion design software (After Effects, Cinema 4D, Premiere, etc.)
Have experience creating product demonstrations or explainer videos, particularly for technology products
Have experience with traditional hand-drawn animation and illustration techniques
Possess strong collaboration skills and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams
Can translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging visual communications
Are detail-oriented with excellent project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Have a passion for creating accessible, inclusive design that resonates with diverse audiences
Care about the societal impacts of AI and are excited to help communicate the benefits of safe AI development
Deep fluency across major motion tools, including After Effects, with comfort handing off clean, well-organized project files to editors working in Premiere.
A systems mindset. You've designed templates, presets, and toolkits that other people use without your help, and you treat consistency, naming, and handoff as part of the craft.
Strong typographic and compositional instincts. You can carry a piece from quiet brand polish to high-volume templated work without losing taste.
Experience developing motion treatments for data, diagrams, or technical concepts in a way that respects the substance.
Comfort briefing, art-directing, and reviewing work from external motion contractors and animation studios.
Experience working in broadcast, B2B, SaaS, or enterprise tech.
Sound design literacy — you know what an SFX stem is and can speak to how audio and motion fit together.
Familiarity with paid-social formats (LinkedIn 1:1 and 9:16) and event or OLV title design.
Experience with Creating working prototypes in Figma or similar design tools
Interactive motion design for web and digital platforms
Video production and post-production workflows
Experience in B2B technology marketing or developer-focused content
Knowledge of AI/ML concepts and terminology
Experience with design systems and brand guidelines development
Have a growth mindset and are eager to learn about cutting-edge AI research and development
Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where you can make a direct impact
Enjoy the challenge of making complex technology feel approachable and exciting
Are passionate about the potential of AI to benefit humanity and want to help others understand that potential
Value clear communication and enjoy iterating with stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcomes
Duration: 6 months with potential extension and contract to hire
Compensation: $195/hour
Location: 100% remote in USA, PST hours ideal
