The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C., and Chicago. The AHA offers a flexible hybrid work schedule of three days in the office and two days working remotely.
This position is out-based.
Essential Functions
Manage and direct the content development for key AONL publications, including the Voice of Nursing Leadership (member newsletter), AONL eNews Update (weekly electronic member newsletter), AONL section of Nurse Leader (member magazine), as well as columns in other nursing publications including the Journal of Nursing Administration. Responsibilities include developing editorial plans, budget and content, and utilizing expertise to research relevant news stories, engage authors, edit submitted articles, and craft new content as needed. Serves as managing editor of Voice of Nursing Leadership and contributing editor of Nurse Leader.
Strategically develop and manage the AONL annual editorial calendar, ensuring that content is relevant to nursing leadership and meets the needs of the full continuum of AONL membership.
Serve as the primary liaison to publication authors and AONL publications committee for topic development. Plan and facilitate annual retreat for publication committee to create editorial calendar and assist committee members with presentations to the AONL board as needed. Oversee internal editorial workgroup, successfully managing, utilizing and engaging staff content experts.
Plan and direct work for content distribution on social media, mobile applications and other technologies to expand AONL communication platform and promote AONL content.
Direct work for new publication products, managing consultants and assuming responsibility for reaching objectives for product completion and use.
Seek out opportunities with other organizations, both inside and outside AHA, for the development of communication resources that benefit AONL members, and plan and direct the methods by which this resource will be shared. Facilitate the sharing of appropriate AHA publications and resources with AONL members through various platforms.
Manage inventory and track costs of publications sold through the AONL’s online store.
Manage the development of other AONL communication pieces and publications as needed.
Utilize expert editing skills to assist other team members on various activities as needed.
Provide support as needed for the development of AONL press releases and content directed at strengthening the AONL brand.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education
Bachelor's Degree Communications, Journalism or related field Required

Salary Information
Commensurate with related experience. The AHA is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
Salary Range: Minimum $97,000, Midpoint $121,000, Maximum $145,000.
