Job Summary

This professional services role focuses on querying, analyzing, and preparing the State of Maine’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) in compliance with GAAP and Federal Uniform Guidance. The coordinator designs statewide accounting policies, oversees year‑end closing procedures, and provides expert guidance to chief financial officers across state agencies and component units.
Responsibilities

Query, compile, and analyze significant data for the ACFR and other financial reports.
Prepare accurate financial statements, including extensive notes, and perform accounting adjustments.
Design, implement, and oversee statewide accounting policies and procedures.
Develop and carry out year‑end closing procedures and instructions for agencies.
Analyze financial information to adjust the trial balance in accordance with GAAP.
Manage special projects to ensure appropriate policies and procedures are applied.
Provide leadership and technical advice to agencies on governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Query, compile, summarize, and analyze data to advise on recommendations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of GAAP, state and federal laws, and regulations related to ACFR preparation.
Knowledge of Pension and Other Post‑Employment Benefit (OPEB) accounting and reporting requirements.
Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Proficiency in complex spreadsheets and large data warehouses.
Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
Ability to keep current with GASB pronouncements and revisions.
Analytical and problem‑solving skills for evaluating accounting systems.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must have successfully completed all sections of the CPA exam or the CIA exam and possess at least four years of experience preparing and/or auditing complex financial statements. Preference will be given to candidates who have passed all parts of the CPA exam.
