Position Summary
The Director, Global Communications Health & Wellness in Bentonville, AR, will manage 360‑degree communications for pharmacy clinical services, specialty pharmacy, and quality and safety programs within Walmart’s Health & Wellness division, which includes nearly 4,600 pharmacies and over 3,000 Vision Centers.
What you’ll do
- Strategic planning and leadership:
- Develop long‑term communication strategies aligned with corporate health and wellness goals.
- Oversee consistent, clear messaging across all channels.
- Set objectives, KPIs, and track outcomes to evaluate success.
- Media relations and public relations:
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets covering health topics.
- Write and distribute press releases and other materials.
- Prepare spokespeople for interviews and public appearances.
- Content development and messaging:
- Oversee content for websites, blogs, social media, newsletters, and internal communications.
- Write speeches, articles, reports, and edit materials for diverse audiences.
- Tailor content for associates, patients, clients, and the general public.
- Internal communication:
- Coordinate with Corporate Affairs, Merchandising, Sustainability, Benefits, and other stakeholders.
- Engage associates and the broader Walmart workforce about wellness initiatives.
- Manage internal communication during health‑related crises.
- Social media and digital engagement:
- Maintain an active social media presence that promotes health and wellness messaging.
- Develop strategies to increase awareness and participation in health programs.
- Crisis and risk communication:
- Prepare and execute crisis communication plans for health emergencies.
- Address issues that could affect reputation, ensuring transparency and trust.
- Measurement and reporting:
- Track metrics using analytics tools to refine communication strategies.
- Report progress and impact to senior leadership.
What you’ll bring
- Experience developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Strong media relations skills, including crafting press releases and building relationships with journalists and influencers.
- Exceptional writing and editing abilities for a variety of audiences, with clear, concise, engaging content.
- Expertise in managing digital platforms and analytics to monitor engagement and adjust strategies.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to crises, mitigating reputational risk.
- Leadership and collaboration skills to manage projects, set goals, and foster creativity.
- Data‑driven decision making to track communication effectiveness and enable continuous improvement.
- Strong verbal communication skills for public speaking and media preparation.
- Critical thinking, adaptability, and problem‑solving to navigate changing trends and industry dynamics.
- Healthcare or pharmaceutical industry experience is helpful.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field.
- 5 years’ experience in public relations, communications, or a relevant area (or 7 years if no supervisory experience).
- At least 2 years’ supervisory experience or experience leading cross‑functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Government relations, media relations, and retail industry experience.
