Scope of the Position
Individual is responsible for histocompatibility laboratory compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency standards, quality assurance, development of laboratory processes, clinical protocols and budget preparation and monitoring. The histocompatibility laboratory operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides services to University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, The James Cancer Center, Nationwide Children's Hospital and Lifeline of Ohio Organ Procurement Organization.
Position Summary
The Director of the histocompatibility laboratory reports directly to the Administrative Director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center for business related activities and routinely collaborates with the Clinical Consultant. This individual is responsible for the overall management of the histocompatibility laboratory, ensuring quality of operations and services, reviewing all technical aspects, directing technological staff, and working closely with attending physicians and fellows in solid organ and bone marrow transplantation to design, implement and review all technical processes. The Director also represents the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center at local, regional and national levels as a liaison between the medical center and various laboratory and transplant-related organizations, agencies and professional organizations.
Minimum Education Required
Doctorate (Professional)
Required Qualifications
- Must hold a PhD in Biology or a field related to immunology
- Must hold certification as an HLA Histocompatibility Lab director (as defined by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics by a board approved by Health and Human Services (HHS))
- Must maintain Clinical Histocompatibility Diplomate status (D-ABHI) conferred by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
