Position Summary

Slowey Management is seeking a dynamic, relationship-driven Director of Sales & Marketing to lead hotel and event sales for the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sioux City North - Event Center. This position is responsible for driving revenue growth for both the hotel and attached event center through strategic sales efforts, account development, community engagement, and exceptional client service.

The Director of Sales & Marketing oversees all hotel and event sales efforts for both the hotel and event center, including supervision and support of the Event Manager position. This role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with corporate travelers, groups, sports teams, associations, social events, and local businesses while positioning the property as a preferred destination within the Siouxland market.

While the Event Manager oversees day-to-day event coordination, the Director of Sales & Marketing may assist with event operations and client support as needed to ensure successful execution and guest satisfaction.

The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate about hospitality, sales, and community involvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present proposals, negotiate agreements, and communicate professionally with clients and team members
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively manage daily workflow and priorities
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain effective in high‑pressure or fast‑paced situations
  • Professional, outgoing, and engaging personality with the ability to network within the local community
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed for events, client meetings, and networking opportunities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous hotel sales, event sales, or hospitality experience
  • Experience with group sales, corporate accounts, and catering/event coordination
  • Experience with hotel property management systems and CRM platforms
  • IHG brand experience preferred
  • OPERA and/or Event Temple experience preferred
  • College degree in Hospitality, Marketing, Business, or related field preferred

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a strong portfolio of corporate, group, sports, and social accounts to achieve hotel and event center revenue goals
  • Prospect new business through sales calls, networking, cold calls, community involvement, and outside sales efforts
  • Generate hotel room nights, meeting space revenue, and event center bookings through strategic selling and relationship development
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities within the Siouxland region
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer preferences to identify opportunities for growth
  • Develop creative sales strategies and promotional initiatives to increase market share and visibility

Client & Community Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, local businesses, travel planners, sports organizations, associations, and community partners
  • Attend networking events, chamber meetings, trade shows, and community functions to promote the property
  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction to encourage repeat business and referrals
  • Conduct hotel and event center tours for prospective clients
  • Represent the property in a professional, service-oriented manner at all times

Leadership & Event Oversight

  • Supervise and support the Event Manager position, providing direction, training, and leadership for event sales and coordination efforts
  • Oversee event center sales strategy, booking pace, and client satisfaction for meetings, weddings, social events, and other functions
  • Collaborate with the Event Manager and operations team to ensure successful execution of all events
  • Assist with event operations, setup coordination, and client support as needed during high-volume periods or special events
  • Ensure clear communication between sales, event operations, and hotel departments to maintain exceptional guest experiences

Event & Group Coordination

  • Collaborate with hotel operations and event staff to ensure successful execution of group events and meetings
  • Prepare and distribute detailed group and event information to operational departments
  • Assist with event logistics and meeting space coordination as needed
  • Maintain communication with clients throughout the planning process to ensure expectations are met or exceeded

Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities

  • Manage sales activities, prospecting efforts, and account information within company systems
  • Monitor production of key accounts and evaluate trends to maximize revenue opportunities
  • Prepare sales reports, forecasts, and action plans as requested by management
  • Maintain organized account and event documentation
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management
