Summary:
The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating, curating, and managing engaging multimedia content that strengthens Charleston Southern University’s digital presence, enhances recruitment and retention efforts, and supports institutional storytelling through strategic social media, writing, and video production. This position plays a key role in showcasing the university experience through compelling visual and written storytelling, creative campaigns, and timely digital engagement across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, editor, and creative storyteller with the ability to produce meaningful content that connects with prospective students, current students, alumni, donors, and the broader university community.
Work Performed
Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with institutional goals and brand standards.
Plan, film, edit, and publish video content for social media platforms, web stories, campaigns, and promotional initiatives.
Capture authentic photography and b-roll footage that supports storytelling needs across university departments and programs.
Manage and maintain the university’s official social media channels with consistency, creativity, and strategic intent.
Write, edit, and publish compelling content for the university newsroom, blog, web features, and digital storytelling initiatives.
Conduct interviews and gather stories that highlight student success, academics, campus life, athletics, alumni impact, and university achievements.
Collaborate with the Content Director on creative messaging and copywriting for advertising campaigns, enrollment marketing initiatives, and brand storytelling efforts.
Monitor social media trends, platform updates, and emerging digital storytelling techniques to keep content fresh and relevant.
Track analytics and performance metrics to evaluate engagement, reach, audience growth, and ROI; provide regular reports and recommendations to the team.
Serve as the primary administrator for the university’s BucNation platform, managing campus communications, content updates, engagement strategies, and user support for the university community.
Support live event coverage and produce quick‑turn content for major university events, athletics, student life, academic programs, and special initiatives.
Train, mentor, and guide student ambassadors and content interns who assist with social media and content creation efforts.
Maintain organized digital asset libraries for photography, video, and campaign materials.
Ensure all content reflects the mission, vision, and brand identity of the university.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, journalism, digital media, public relations, film production, English, or a related field preferred.
Computer literate with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office, and the ability to quickly learn and work with new software systems.
Knowledge of social media platforms and editing applications is required.
Experience in copywriting with strong editing acumen is also required.
Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Well‑developed time management and organizational skills are essential.
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for multiple audiences and platforms.
Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong understanding of current social media trends, platform best practices, analytics tools, and digital engagement strategies.
Additional Information
This is a full‑time, exempt position directly reporting to the Content Director. The role requires a highly creative and organized individual who can produce high‑quality written and multimedia content while strategically advancing the university’s digital engagement, communications, and storytelling initiatives.
Essential job functions include regular, on‑time attendance and availability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and live coverage.
