The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is seeking an IDEA Commissioner to support campus diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility initiatives.
Responsibilities
Commissioner of Social Justice and Policy:
Track university, local, state, and national policies that affect students; research diverse and inclusive initiatives at other institutions; analyze policy and provide data for presentation to the Senate.
Commissioner of Projects and Events:
Coordinate and organize events, initiatives, and efforts to educate students, faculty, and staff on diverse topics; empower under‑represented students.
Commissioner of Marketing and Outreach:
Mediate communication between the Department and multicultural groups on campus and in the community; promote and market department projects and events to address concerns of under‑represented students and faculty.
Act as liaison between students from diverse groups, including race, culture, LGBTQIA+, international, socioeconomic status, disability, and religion.
Highlight and address issues to specific breaches and plan events catering to designated groups.
Attend scheduled Department of IDEA meetings and perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
Mentor and educate IDEA interns assigned to officers.
Qualifications
Current enrollment at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA and enroll in at least 7 credits.
Adhere to ASUN Governing Documents and the Nevada Student Code of Conduct.
Meet all deadlines, attend required meetings and training, comply with scheduled hours, submit HR paperwork on time.
Act ethically and with integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience or coursework in sociology, social justice, ethnic studies, gender studies, psychology, education, political science, or related social sciences.
Involvement in initiatives or organizations focused on inclusivity, diversity, and social justice.
Knowledge of INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND ACCESSIBILITY (IDEA) principles, frameworks, and best practices; understanding of systemic inequities and intersectional identities.
Ability to work effectively and respectfully with politically, ideologically, and culturally diverse people and communities.
Excellent organization, project‑management skills, and flexibility in a team‑based environment.
Willingness to mentor an intern during the fall and spring semesters.
Commitment to advancing the foundational pillars of the Home Means Nevada Platform through outreach, climate surveys, focus groups, sponsored events, and infrastructure improvements.
Compensation
Grade Student Employee Level1: $3,000 distributed evenly over a 12‑month period in a single term (Exempt).
