POSITION SUMMARY
The Relationship Manager / Team Leader – Middle Market Lending is responsible for leading a team of Relationship Managers while directly contributing to the origination, structuring, and management of complex middle market credit relationships.

This role oversees a portfolio of privately held middle market clients (generally $100MM–$1B in revenue) and is accountable for driving new business development, maintaining strong credit quality, and ensuring disciplined risk management practices.

The Team Leader serves as both a producing leader and a strategic partner, fostering team performance, mentoring talent, and delivering comprehensive banking solutions through cross-functional collaboration across Treasury Management, Deposits, Wealth Management, and other commercial product groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development & Revenue Growth

Lead and execute market strategy for middle market lending growth, including new client acquisition and expansion of existing relationships.

Actively originate and structure complex lending opportunities while maintaining a personal production portfolio.

Expand the Bank’s presence through Centers of Influence, industry networks, and community engagement.

Drive cross-sell initiatives across Treasury Management, Deposits, Wealth, and other fee-based solutions.

Credit Leadership & Loan Structuring

Oversee and ensure quality of credit underwriting, loan structuring, and risk evaluation for team-originated transactions.

Review and guide loan presentations, ensuring comprehensive financial analysis, cash flow assessment, and adherence to policy.

Provide guidance on structuring complex transactions, balancing growth objectives with sound credit discipline.

Maintain oversight of team portfolio performance with a focus on credit quality, covenant compliance, and risk identification.

Ensure early identification and escalation of problem credits in partnership with Credit and Risk teams.

Monitor portfolio concentrations, trends, and emerging risks within the middle market segment.

Ensure all transactions are executed and closed in compliance with approved terms and regulatory requirements.

Lead, coach, and develop Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers, fostering a high-performance, accountability‑driven culture.

Set clear production, portfolio, and cross-sell expectations aligned with business objectives.

Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning.

Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor, supporting team members in deal structuring, client engagement, and credit decisions.

Collaboration & Strategic Execution

Partner closely with Credit, Treasury Management, Operations, Risk, and senior leadership to deliver a seamless client experience.

Drive consistency in execution of sales and credit processes across the team.

Maintain strong awareness of market conditions, competitive landscape, and industry‑specific risks impacting middle market clients.

SKILLS AND TRAINING REQUIRED

Advanced expertise in credit analysis, underwriting, and loan structuring

Strong leadership and team development capabilities

Proven track record of originating and growing profitable commercial relationships

Deep understanding of middle market financial structures and risk dynamics

Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision‑making skills

Excellent executive‑level communication and presentation skills (clients and credit committees)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 12–15 years of progressive commercial lending experience

Significant experience in middle market relationship management and credit

Prior leadership or team management experience strongly preferred

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies. This includes interviewing, hiring, training and managing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and addressing and resolving employee complaints and concerns.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a normal office environment. Noise levels are usually moderate. May also involve travel to customers and property locations.

HAZARDS
The hazards are mainly those present in a normal office setting and those present in commuting by car. Occasionally, they may be exposed to those conditions present in public forums and meeting places.

Please note, the base pay actually offered may vary based upon the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, education, geographic location, internal equity, and other applicable business and organizational needs.

This role participates in a lucrative incentive plan, tied to company business and/or individual goal achievement and performance.
