About the Role
We are hiring a

Controls Engineer III

to support advanced manufacturing and automation initiatives. In this role, you’ll lead the design, development, installation, and commissioning of PLC-based automation systems in a high-volume production environment.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a seasoned controls engineer who thrives in solving complex technical challenges and working directly with equipment and cross-functional teams.

What You’ll Do
Lead controls engineering scope for capital and automation projects
Design and implement PLC, HMI, and SCADA-based systems (Rockwell environment)
Develop control architectures, functional specs, and integration strategies
Oversee system integration, commissioning, and startup activities
Troubleshoot complex controls, networking, and automation issues
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, IT, and operations teams
Provide technical guidance to system integrators and machine builders

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
7+ years of Controls Engineering experience
Strong experience with

PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley)
Hands-on experience with

HMI & SCADA (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Optix)
Knowledge of

PID control systems
Experience with

AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
Proficiency in

ladder logic, structured xsgimln text, function blocks (IEC programming)
Experience with

industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT)
Familiarity with

machine safety standards (ISO 13849)
Strong troubleshooting and commissioning experience

Travel & Work Environment
Travel up to 50% to North Carolina facilities (Hickory & Wilmington)
Occasional vendor visits for equipment validation
Flexibility required during installation/startup phases (weekends/extended hours possible)
