Overview
New York University (NYU) is seeking an experienced strategic and execution-oriented Associate Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and deliver comprehensive communication and marketing strategies in support of its rapidly expanding science and technology portfolio. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff for the Executive Vice President for Global Science and Technology, this role plays a key part in strengthening NYU's reputation as a global leader in scientific research, technological innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The position blends strategic planning with hands‑on execution, requiring a communications professional who is equally comfortable setting direction and producing high‑quality content.

The Associate Director will be uniquely embedded within NYU Tandon's Marketing and Communications team in Brooklyn, leveraging NYU's central Public Relations and digital resources to coordinate science and technology communications and marketing strategies across NYU's schools and units.

Position Summary

Develop and deliver comprehensive communication and marketing strategies in support of the University's science and technology portfolio.

Collaborate with science and technology schools, initiatives, and institute communications teams to create a cohesive narrative about NYU science and technology priorities.

Elevate NYU's profile as a destination for cutting‑edge research, innovation, and talent in science and technology.

Amplify news, press, and campaigns emerging from NYU's science and technology schools.

Leverage NYU's digital and social media platforms to amplify science and technology initiatives across the University.

Organize and foster internal communication within the science and technology community at NYU, ensuring transparency and coordination around promotional initiatives.

Collaborate with event organizers to promote and publicize high‑profile science and technology events, conferences, and symposia.

Manage budgets and establish and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).

Responsibilities
Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Science, Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

Master’s Degree in a related field.

Required Experience:

5+ years related experience in marketing and communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience, including communicating complex scientific and technological topics to diverse audiences; experience with media relations (including proactive pitching and crisis communication); proven track record of developing and executing successful, integrated communication and marketing strategies.

Preferred Experience:

5+ years related experience in marketing and communications with some leadership experience within a university, research institution, or a science/technology‑focused organization; experience working in a global or international context.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; proficiency in digital marketing, social media management, and content management systems; strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, complex, and highly collaborative environment.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Familiarity with the higher education landscape and academic research environment.

Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $105,000.00 to USD $125,000.00. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
