Summary: The Video Monitor Technician is responsible for continuous observation of assigned patients through a video monitoring system, ensuring the safety of patients who cannot be directly observed in person.
Responsibilities:
- Observes patients over a video monitoring system as directed by nursing staff. Maintains visual observation at all times without distraction. Tracks and ensures continuity of monitoring.
- Maintains roster of patients under monitoring and their observation criteria. Alerts nursing staff of patient safety concerns, significant observations, or any noted examples of the documented observation criteria / behaviors.
- Performs hand-off of patient monitoring as appropriate during shift change and breaks. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
- Observes and reports patient information obtained during visual monitoring. Documents patient activity and/or contact. Answers phones and notifies staff of patient requests.
- Maintains inventory of and tracks issued equipment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of Video Monitoring Software. Seeks help as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
- Respects and provides patient confidentiality. Seeks guidance as needed.
- Demonstrates proper performance of skills reflected and validated by the position's orientation. Use standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in a health care setting preferred
