Program Coordinator – Part‑time
Come join the City of Redondo Beach Community Services Department as a part‑time Program Coordinator. Two positions are available: one in Senior & Family Services and one in Recreation Office Administration.

Position Overview
Under direction of a supervisor, this position is responsible for performing paraprofessional duties, including planning, promoting, implementing, maintaining, and coordinating specialized senior services, programs, and special events; evaluating program facility needs; managing accounting operations; and performing related duties as required. Duties also include program registration, facility rentals, and staff/volunteer coordination.

Sample Duties

Propose, recommend, and implement programs and activities, such as arts, exercise programs, and special events.

Participate in and coordinate fundraising activities.

Promote community awareness of programs.

Select, schedule, and direct part‑time staff and volunteers.

Recommend and coordinate purchase of program supplies and equipment.

Monitor and supervise program participants and make behavioral referrals when necessary.

Collaborate with other social services providers as appropriate.

Collect and analyze data and prepare reports for management staff.

Operate a motor vehicle in the performance of job duties.

Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge

Materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures, and practices related to youth and senior activities, recreational programs, group activities, games, and sports.

Applicable health and safety regulations and first aid.

Record‑keeping practices and procedures.

Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Report writing.

Basic mathematical computations.

Applicable sections of the California Vehicle Code.

Ability

Meet medical and physical employment standards for the classification.

Read, write, speak, and understand English.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Compose correspondence, brochures, flyers, and other informational documents.

Provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence, using judgment, knowledge, and interpretive skills.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Work overtime as necessary.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers and members of the public.

Legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of California.

Education and Experience
Effective leadership skills, creativity, good decision making, exercising appropriate judgment, teaching ability, and leading by example are preferred qualities. Minimum requirements: at least 18 years of age, valid California Driver’s License, completion of high school is required, and some college coursework in related field is highly desired. The equivalent of four years of full‑time work experience in a recreation program, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and ability, is highly desirable.

Selection Process
Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test, and interview. All employment offers are contingent upon proof of legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre‑employment process. The process may include reference checks, background investigation, fingerprint‑based criminal history check, credit check, degree verification, and post‑offer medical examination and drug test.
