Actors Needed for "Hairspray" Play Audition

Campaign Overview

Seeking performers for the "Hairspray" production staged in early 1960s Baltimore. The musical blends high-energy comedy, romance, and activism, culminating in a joyful fight for integration and self-expression.
Rate & Contract

Weekly minimum of $745.72 under an Independent Theatre Contract.
Audition Requirements

Applicants must prepare:
One short contemporary monologue.
One short song in the style of "Hairspray".
Sheet music in the key you plan to sing.
Headshot and resume.
Auditions will not exceed 3 minutes total and will be conducted at the Virginia Rep Center, 114 W Broad St, Richmond, VA. The accompanist will be provided. Auditions scheduled for Monday, June 22 from 1:00pm to 10:00pm (break 5:00–6:00pm) and Tuesday, June 23 from 12:30pm to 9:30pm (break 4:30–5:30pm).
Schedule

Rehearsals start: May 10, 2027.
Performance run: June 16 – August 1, 2027.
Eligibility

Only local talent will be considered. Performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, ages, and those with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
Additional Notes

An Equity Monitor will not be provided; the producer will manage all aspects of the audition.
Appointments can be scheduled via the Google Form provided in the casting notice.
