Rate: Independent Theatre Contract
$565 weekly minimum
Additional info: Audition day break: 1:00PM - 2:00PM.
PREPARATION: Please prepare a monologue no longer than 60 seconds. If you wish to be considered for Romeo + Juliet, please choose a Shakespeare monologue. Please bring two copies of your headshot and resume, stapled together or printed double‑sided. EPA procedures are in effect for this audition.
A Equity Monitor will be provided. Equity’s contracts prohibit discrimination. Director’s Note: The script has been cut/adapted for 16-18 roles. No doubling. All actors may be involved in ensemble‑driven storytelling. All actors may be involved in a high energy dance number; however, formal dance or movement training is not required.

  • BENVOLIO (Both genders, 18-25 y.o., All ethnicities) – To play teens. Romeo’s cousin and friend. A gentle soul. NOTE: This role requires stage combat.
  • BALTHASAR (Both genders, 18-29 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting/masc
    on‑binary; Romeo’s page/bodyguard. The muscle of the group. NOTE: This role requires stage combat.
  • MONTAGUE (Both genders, 40-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting. Romeo’s father.
  • LADY MONTAGUE (Both genders, 40-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Female presenting. Romeo’s mother.
  • TYBALT (Both genders, 20-29 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting. Juliet’s hot‑headed cousin. NOTE: This role requires stage combat.
  • PETER (Both genders, 30-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting. House Capulet’s loyal if bumbling serving man. Provides comic relief throughout.
  • UNDERSTUDY/EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT FOR LADY CAPULET (Both genders, 40-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Female presenting. An amalgamation of Shakespeare’s Capulet and Lady Capulet. A widow and therefore Juliet’s only living parent.
  • UNDERSTUDY/EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT FOR NURSE (Both genders, 40-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Female presenting. Around the same age as Lady Capulet, but softer and much less refined. Provides comic relief throughout.
  • MERCUTIO (Both genders, 18-24 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting/masc
    on‑binary. Romeo’s most fabulous friend and kinsman to Queen Escalus. NOTE: This role requires stage combat.
  • UNDERSTUDY/EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT FOR FRIAR LAWRENCE (Both genders, 30-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting. He gives “cool youth pastor,” like your favorite Sex Ed teacher who leaves condoms outside his door “just in case.”
  • QUEEN ESCALUS (Both genders, 30-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Female presenting. High status, diplomatic, fair but firm.
  • COUNTY PARIS (Both genders, 20-24 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting. Lady Capulet’s preferred suitor for Juliet. Perfectly fine, but no Romeo. NOTE: This role requires stage combat.
  • APOTHECARY/ENESMBLE (Both genders, 18-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Seeking an actor skilled with slight‑of‑hand/magic.
  • FRIAR JOHN/ENSEMBLE (Both genders, 18-96 y.o., All ethnicities) – Male presenting. Well‑meaning.
