Job Summary
This person grows their assigned agency and manages local staff to address the business objectives of the company. The Managing Director coaches and develops agents to meet the insurance needs of policyholders and clients with appropriate and suitable products, supports agents to maximize their professional growth and revenue-generating opportunities, and functions as the primary liaison between the Home Office and assigned independent sales agents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit, select, orient, train, coach, and counsel insurance agents.
- Communicate values, strategies, and objectives; assign accountabilities.
- Plan, monitor, and appraise job results; develop a welcoming climate by offering value-added information and opinions.
- Provide training and developmental opportunities.
- Recommend business plans, budgets, and performance metrics; allocate resources; review progress and make mid-course corrections.
- Generate new business by identifying and addressing local market opportunities.
- Develop and maintain compliant working relationships with clients, insurance carriers, regulatory agencies, assigned agents, and co-workers.
- Encourage agents to consider proprietary product lines that meet client needs; increase profitability of those products.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of current market conditions, compliant business practices, and available product solutions to establish trust and credibility with clients.
- Build company image through collaboration with customers, community organizations, and other stakeholders while enforcing ethical business practices.
- Direct and coordinate agency financial and budget activities to manage operations and maximize growth and efficiency.
- Review growth results, recruiting, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement; determine areas needing program improvement and cost reduction.
- Meet required growth and sales objectives.
- Spend significant time with new agents to ensure successful completion of fast-start initiatives (30 sales in the agent’s first 90 days).
- Provide and review detailed metric reports; coach agents to achieve activity requirements, sales levels, cross‑selling opportunities, compliance standards, and minimum production/retention requirements.
- Develop training schedules and identify improvement areas to increase new premium from agents’ production.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in the insurance industry, preferably in marketing, sales, and suitability capacity.
- Experience with Medicare, life, and annuity products.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- Excellent time‑management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
- Agency sales experience is a must.
