How You’ll Contribute

The National Geographic Society’s Science & Innovation team oversees funding efforts in science, conservation, and technology, develops major mission programs, and establishes partnerships. The Coordinator reports to the VP, Science and Innovation Programs and provides critical tactical support that keeps the Science and Innovation Programs (SIP) team functioning efficiently. Responsibilities include administrative and project management, budget coordination, stakeholder management, and data metrics tracking.
Key Responsibilities

Team Support (30%)

Provides program support for signature initiatives such as Photo Ark and large‑scale programs.
Acquires a full understanding of project goals, impact, and deliverables.
Manages internal communications to keep stakeholders aligned and milestones on track.
Provides on‑site event support at key convenings.

Administrative Support (30%)

Assists with program operations using NGS systems such as Workday, Google Docs, Wrike, and Salesforce.
Manages the VP’s calendar, coordinating meetings and events.
Supports contract coordination, legal documentation, invoices, mailings, travel, and logistics.
Ensures program payments and invoices are distributed and paid on time.
Orders program supplies and materials as requested by internal teams.

Strategy & Development (10%)

Understands the organization’s goals, overarching strategy, and relevant Explorer‑led projects.

Program Management (20%)

Executes tactical components of strategy under leadership direction.
Manages assigned tasks, executes event and operational logistics.
Proactively resolves issues using established processes.
Participates in cross‑platform workgroups to inform programmatic strategy and outcomes.

Team, Divisional, and Organizational Collaboration (10%)

Contributes to broader team and division goals.
Supports effective communication within the Programs team and across departments.

Qualifications

Educational Background

– Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience

– Minimum 2+ years of related experience.
Knowledge & Skills

Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
Strong organizational and detail‑orientation with rapid learning aptitude.
Technical proficiency with Salesforce, G‑Suite, Wrike, and other project management tools.
Presentation design skills are a plus.
Experience with Slack and other communication platforms is beneficial.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with social media and other communication tools.
Knowledge of or experience in social sciences, including archaeology, paleoanthropology, social anthropology, or biological anthropology.

Job Designation & Eligibility

This is a hybrid role requiring presence at Base Camp two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday). Additional days are welcome. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and are not eligible for visa sponsorship.
