The Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) is a leading West Coast art museum showcasing internationally-recognized collections and exhibitions, along with a broad array of cultural and educational activities.

Position Overview
The Communications and Social Media Manager reports to the Marketing and Communications Director and is responsible for developing, managing, and executing strategic communications, digital content, social media, and public-facing messaging that advances the Museum’s mission, exhibitions, programs, and brand identity.

Responsibilities

Develop and manage the Museum’s social media and digital platforms, including writing, editing, and content development.

Plan and execute editorial calendars, listings, media coverage, and press materials for exhibitions and events.

Create marketing materials such as bi‑weekly print and radio ads, video content, membership communications, quarterly newsletters, and bi‑weekly eblasts, and provide content for the website.

Write, review, and update website content and maintain the Museum’s institutional voice across digital, print, media and social platforms.

Draft, proof, and distribute press releases and other media materials; manage a local and national media contact list.

Track and archive press coverage; coordinate estimates and vendors as needed.

Assist in other marketing materials, including membership communications and newsletters.

Serve cross‑departmental project management duties, independently managing multiple communication projects from concept through completion.

Qualifications

BA degree required; 5‑7 years of digital/social media, public relations and/or marketing experience.

Proficiency with digital communication tools (email campaigns, online calendars, social media scheduling software such as Zoho, PR tracking/coverage tools such as Cision, digital media creation tools like Canva, MS Office Suite, Photoshop).

Experience managing and executing social media initiatives across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, Google, etc.

Excellent personal and organizational skills; strong ability to multi‑task and communicate effectively.

Other Information

Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications.

Schedule: Exempt, non‑remote; some evenings, weekends or holidays may be required.

Compensation: DOE $70,304 to $73,750.

Must pass a background check and occasionally travel offsite; able to lift up to 25 lbs.
