Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musical, seeks a full-time Production Manager. Founded in 1970, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. MTC produces a season of plays annually in Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off-Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
The Production Manager reports directly to the Director of Production and is instrumental in all production needs at MTC’s theatres and office spaces. The PM will be based at the MTC offices and work in the theatre as the shows require. This position works closely with MTC Staff, directors, designers, stage managers, technical crews, consultants and vendors. Critical for success in this position is the ability to work in concert with others, and track and prioritize multiple short term and long-term projects at once. MTC is looking for someone with a strong background in technical theatre.
Responsibilities
- Oversee pre‑production, shop bids, and builds. Oversee load‑ins, tech, and load‑outs.
- Ensure designer and shop drawings are checked for accuracy and completeness.
- Create staffing and trucking calendars.
- Manage running shows in concert with the production team.
- Audit and submit weekly payroll for theatre crews.
- Manage and administer show budgets.
- Create budgets for one‑off events and rentals.
- Support the rehearsal process with check‑ins and changes.
- Schedule and run production meetings.
- Create technical specification documents and bid sheets.
- Work with local authorities to ensure shows remain compliant (FDNY, DOB, etc).
- Maintain file management of show paperwork and MTC paperwork.
- Join weekly staff meetings and update the company on status of shows.
- Partner with rentals of theatre spaces when appropriate to ensure their compliance with MTC rules and regulations.
- Participate in facilities and maintenance needs as determined by DoP or show needs.
Requirements
- Experience and background working in theater at a high level, running and maintaining shows; experience on a Broadway level is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of Production Management or similar experience demonstrating responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Vectorworks.
- Late nights and weekend work are required.
- Experience managing people and setting a strong example in the workplace.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability and willingness to always exercise professional courtesy and discretion, and maintain confidentiality as required.
- Strong attention to detail, flexibility, and resourcefulness.
- Experience, ability, and commitment to work with a diverse community of individuals and teams.
- A positive attitude, concern for other people and community, presence, and self‑confidence.
- General computer skills including Microsoft Office, Dropbox, and G‑Suite.
- Must be able to climb and work from ladders and lift and carry 40 lbs.
The ideal candidate is good at problem solving and able to approach problems from many angles. Creativity and willingness to work as a team member required.
This is a full‑time, salaried position paying $70,000-$75,000 annually, OT exempt with a comprehensive benefits package including group health insurance with options for spousal, family and/or domestic partner coverage, voluntary dental coverage, basic life and long‑term disability insurance, employer‑funded pension, paid time off, and optional 401(k) and flexible spending plans for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting expenses.
