Position Overview

The Director of Regional Development will directly manage a portfolio of major gift prospects who are interested in supporting the University. The Director will identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospects who can make a commitment of $125K or greater, collaborating closely with College Advancement teammates and the Managing Director of Regional Development, Chicago to advance philanthropy in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing the annual fundraising business plan developed by the Managing Director of Regional Development, Chicago.
  • Meet regularly with the Managing Director to assess projects, review strategies, and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 40 prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $125,000 and more, with an annual production goal in excess of $1,000,000.
  • Identify and contact additional prospects through research and referrals.
  • Meet individually with prospects and volunteers to advance them toward making a philanthropic commitment to the university.
  • Make personal gift solicitations and maintain a comprehensive understanding of university priorities.
  • Prepare solicitation materials, conduct strategy meetings, and prepare briefing materials for senior university leadership.
  • Direct and refer a solicitation to identified prospects in the portfolio for a planned gift, including bequests and annuities.
  • Partner with the Planned Giving fundraising team as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with prospects and record all contact in the University Advancement prospect management system.
  • Attend relevant university events and meetings, including evenings and weekends, representing the university to external constituents.
  • Participate in all UA, Regional Advancement, or other required team or staff meetings.
  • Attend meetings, quarterly staff retreats, and committee activities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of development‑related experience in higher education with a successful track record of personal portfolio management and securing gifts of $125K or above. Relevant sales experience may also be considered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel is required.
