Assistant Or Associate Professor Of Music - Trumpet

The Department of Music seeks an energetic, collaborative, and artistic candidate to build a dynamic applied trumpet studio at Mississippi State University. The successful candidate will assume this role in an exciting time in the department with new facilities, strong enrollment, a strong relationship with the University administration, and planned growth in curriculum and community relations. The new Assistant (or Associate) Professor of Music - Trumpet is expected to bring an innovative and energetic perspective to teaching trumpet, a collaborative approach to chamber music coaching and performance, and a collegial spirit to department and university service. It is expected that the best candidate will contribute to a secondary responsibility in the department based on candidate strengths and needs of the department.
The successful candidate will also have a strong and clear research agenda and will bring that dedication to research to our students at the undergraduate and graduate level. Tenure Track
Ranked, tenure-track applied music faculty teach an ideal 3.3 course load. Teach studio trumpet and brass-related courses. Research/Creative Achievements including but not limited to publications, presentations, professional performances; potential for external funding and other activities consistent with Mississippi State University Promotion and Tenure guidelines. Direct the MSU Trumpet Consort & coach student chamber ensembles. Secondary teaching responsibilities based on departmental needs and candidate's expertise. Participate in university, college, and departmental committees, service and recruiting activities. Perform with faculty chamber ensembles.
Completed doctorate is required at the time of appointment. Appropriate performance experience. Successful experience in teaching studio trumpet.
Ability to work collaboratively in a variety of academic and community settings. Ability to actively recruit and maintain a thriving trumpet studio. Academic and professional characteristics consistent with the missions of the University, College, and the Department of Music. Professional performance experience. University teaching experience.
Teaching trumpet, a collaborative approach to chamber music coaching and performance, and a strong and clear research agenda.
No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
