About Opal’s Heart
Opal’s Heart is a 501(c)(3), all‑volunteer nonprofit dedicated to providing dignity, essential supplies, and support to unhoused individuals in the Metropolitan D.C. area — one Care Bag and Care Meal at a time.

Position Summary
The Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing Opal’s Heart outreach programs, including Care Meal distributions, Care Bag outreach, and special initiatives. This role manages program logistics, community partnerships, supply planning, and impact tracking, while working in close collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure programs are properly staffed and run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities
Program Planning & Logistics

Plan and coordinate outreach events, distributions, and special initiatives

Develop program schedules, timelines, and operational plans

Identify supply needs and coordinate procurement and preparation

Ensure locations, permits (if needed), and partner arrangements are confirmed

Create run‑of‑show plans for outreach days

Community Partnerships

Build and maintain relationships with shelters, community groups, and service partners

Coordinate outreach schedules and joint service efforts with partner organizations

Represent Opal’s Heart professionally in community settings

Event Execution (Shared with Volunteer Coordinator)

Support on‑site leadership during outreach events

Troubleshoot issues related to logistics, safety, or service flow

Ensure program goals and service standards are upheld

Data, Evaluation & Reporting

Track program outputs such as meals served, care bags distributed, and locations served

Maintain organized program records and documentation

Provide data and summaries for grant reports, donor communications, and board updates

Collaboration with Volunteer Coordinator

Share program schedules and staffing needs in advance

Coordinate roles and assignments for outreach eventsCommunicate changes or special requirements related to programs

Support volunteer leadership development during events

Administrative & Organizational Support

Assist with program budgeting and expense tracking

Contribute to planning meetings and organizational strategy discussions

Support seasonal campaigns and special projects

Qualifications
Required

Strong organizational and project coordination skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing conditions

Commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness with dignity and respect

Reliable transportation and the ability to attend outreach events

Preferred

Experience in nonprofit programs, social services, or community outreach

Experience coordinating logistics or managing events

Basic data tracking and reporting experience (Google Workspace, Excel, or similar)
