Senior Director, Professional Relations & KOL Development

A leading company in the ophthalmic disease space is looking for a Senior Director to lead our physician engagement and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) strategy across the ophthalmology and optometry markets.

The Role

You'll be the architect of our external professional network — building trusted relationships with leading ophthalmologists, optometrists, academic institutions, and professional societies to drive clinical adoption, innovation, and market leadership. This is a high-impact role combining strategic vision, clinical credibility, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute our enterprise-wide KOL engagement strategy across ophthalmology, optometry, cornea, cataract, refractive, and oculoplastic specialties
  • Identify, cultivate, and grow relationships with national, regional, and emerging thought leaders
  • Lead advisory boards, speaker bureaus, faculty programs, and physician ambassador initiatives
  • Build and expand our Centers of Excellence and clinical partnership strategy
  • Support publication planning, scientific exchange, and peer-to-peer education
  • Partner cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Marketing, Professional Education, and Sales Leadership

What We're Looking For

  • 12+ years of progressive leadership in pharma, biotech, medical device, or ophthalmology
  • 5+ years leading Professional Relations, KOL Development, Medical Education, or related customer-facing functions
  • Deep knowledge of the ophthalmic marketplace and its key stakeholders
  • Proven success building KOL networks, advisory boards, speaker programs, and Centers of Excellence
  • Exceptional executive presence and relationship-building skills
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced/clinical degree preferred

Preferred

An established network of ophthalmology/optometry thought leaders, experience in cornea or ocular surface disease markets, and a track record of building scalable physician advocacy programs.
