Job Summary
The
Staff/Senior Transmission Engineer
will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including underground and overhead
high voltage transmission lines (765kV) . The Staff/Senior Transmission Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting transmission plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
Key Responsibilities
Perform transmission design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
Modify and review transmission components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Prepare transmission equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Perform economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance, and grounding calculations/studies.
Compile calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or other applicable codes and resources. Prepare communications of the interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards.
Apply strong knowledge of commonly used transmission engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry.
Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Compile studies and reports. Write specifications.
Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify that corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
Substantial and meaningful
765kV experience
(depth of involvement, scope of responsibility, and design, construction, and/or operational exposure must be clearly demonstrated - listing "765kV" alone is not sufficient)
Strong knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, and demonstrated critical thinking skills
Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, transmission analysis programs
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
Comfortable with client-facing work, presentations, and technical discussions with clients
Preferred Skills
Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred
Consulting background preferred
Candidates with lower voltage class experience who have strong experience running electrical studies and relevant transmission or substation design background may be considered
Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and minimum 3 years of transmission engineering experience required (Consulting preferred);
OR
Bachelor's Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and minimum 3 years of transmission engineering experience required (Consulting preferred);
OR
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of transmission engineering experience required (Consulting preferred)
Note: Internship experience does not count toward the required years of experience
Note: School must be ABET accredited
Required Experience
Minimum 3 years of transmission engineering experience (with Bachelor's Degree pathway), or minimum 2 years of transmission engineering experience (with Master's Degree pathway)
Substantive 765kV experience is critical; candidates must clearly demonstrate depth of involvement and scope of responsibility in 765kV projects
Nice-to-Have Experience
Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously (typical workload is 2-3 projects at any given time)
Experience supporting projects through construction and operations phases
Background as a consultant, independent engineer, or personal LLC
Experience outside the U.S. (international 765kV exposure considered)
