Director of Marketing and Public Relations


Salary Schedule: Commensurate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule C3.


Scope


Director of Marketing and Public Relations provides strategic leadership in shaping and communicating the story of Wallace Community College Selma. This role is responsible for developing, guiding, and supporting effective internal and external communication efforts that strengthen the College’s visibility, reputation, and community engagement. The director oversees the creation and execution of a comprehensive marketing plan tailored to the unique needs, priorities, and initiatives of WCCS. As the steward of the College’s brand, the director ensures that all messaging is consistent, timely, mission‑aligned, and reflective of the College’s commitment to serving near and far, Selma, and all surrounding Dallas County, and the surrounding communities.


Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, strategic marketing, public relations, and communications plan to enhance Wallace Selma’s image and support internal and external communications.

  • Oversee the development, production, and distribution of all college‑branded communications, including printed materials, advertising, newsletters, publications (e.g., College Catalog, Student Handbook, Fact Book, Annual Report, Strategic Plan), and digital content, ensuring brand consistency and SACSCOC compliance.

  • Develop and execute year‑round advertising and promotional campaigns to support enrollment, events, and new programs.

  • Actively track and pursue positive media coverage and coordinate media interviews as needed in collaboration with the President or Dean of Institutional Effectiveness.

  • Assist with survey development, administration, data entry, and reporting for the College.

  • Serve as a resource person for survey procedures and design.

  • Support institutional effectiveness efforts, including SPOL (Strategic Planning Online) training and implementation, and help oversee course and instructor evaluations each semester.

  • Assist in planning and implementing the college’s professional development calendar.

  • Participate in various recruitment activities with external agencies, organizations, and internal Wallace Selma departments as requested.

  • Work collaboratively with Wallace Selma admission office to facilitate college recruiting efforts.

  • Represent the Office of Institutional Effectiveness on college committees as assigned.

  • Keep current regarding Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) principles of accreditation as pertains to college integrity and institutional planning and effectiveness.

  • Prepare and oversee a public relations crisis communications plan in coordination with the Director of Facilities & Safety and the President’s Office.

  • Prepare and manage the communications budget.

  • Be responsible for achieving marketing, community relations, and public relations mission and goals, ensuring that evaluation systems are in place to support these goals and objectives, and reporting progress to the President.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President, Administrative Assistant to the President, and Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Faculty Development.


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a closely related field.

  • Two years of experience in public relations/marketing.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory or leadership/administrative role.

  • An understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the Alabama Community College System.
