Overview
The successful candidate will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and will support Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Command Chaplains Office as a Protestant Chapel Musicians.
Responsibilities
Coordinate musical arrangements with the Chaplain or Officiating Chaplain prior to rehearsals and services.
Lead the congregation in worship through vocal, guitar, piano, or keyboard performances at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Protestant Chapel services and other religious events.
Perform up to one regular Sunday service per week, not exceeding 52 per year for active duty personnel and others authorized by OPNAVNST 1730. ID.
Attend mid‑week rehearsals for praise teams or choirs as needed to ensure adequate practice and preparation.
Arrive at the appointed place of performance 15 minutes before each scheduled event.
Provide support for up to 20 special services, including observance of Holy Days, funerals, memorials, and special religious observances; weddings are not authorized.
Notify the Contracting Officer (KO), Contracting Specialist (CS), and Chaplain by telephone or email if unable to perform due to illness, inclement weather, emergency, or requested vacation. Two‑week advance notice is required for vacations.
Inform the KO, CS, and Chaplain of any instrument malfunctions and request necessary repairs, supplies, or musical literature. Funding requests are submitted by the Chaplain or their representative.
When unavailable, arrange for a pre‑approved substitute, compensate the substitute, and report all absences to the CS/KO for further determination.
For temporary absences, provide a qualified substitute in consultation with the KO, CS, and the Command Chaplain; compensate the substitute and report to CS/KO.
For permanent departure, give official notice at least 14 days in advance, find and provide a qualified replacement approved by both the Command Chaplain and the Contracting Officer at least 30 days before the original musician’s final performance.
Qualifications
Must be able to sight‑read music and play piano or keyboard.
Familiar with liturgical and contemporary worship service formats.
At least two years of experience playing in a church congregation.
Ability to sing and play liturgical and contemporary Christian music.
Ability to lead Protestant Christian faith group music services.
An audition will be required as part of the interview and hiring process.
Compensation
This part‑time position offers compensation based on budget and the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
