Head Of Transmission Planning & Interconnection
We are seeking an accomplished Head of Transmission Planning & Interconnection to lead and scale our Transmission & Distribution Engineering and Consulting Division. This executive leadership role is responsible for defining the strategic vision for our transmission planning practice while driving business growth, innovation, and operational excellence across the organization. The ideal candidate is a recognized industry leader in power systems planning who combines deep technical expertise with executive leadership capability. You will shape the direction of our grid planning services, expand market presence, and build high-performing multidisciplinary teams that deliver complex transmission and interconnection solutions to utilities, developers, and grid operators. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee strategic initiatives in transmission planning, interconnection studies, and system analysis while fostering strong relationships with clients, industry partners, and internal stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
Lead the strategic direction and growth of the Transmission Planning & Interconnection practice within the T&D Engineering & Consulting Division
Oversee complex transmission planning and interconnection studies, including power flow, transient stability, short-circuit, harmonics, and EMT analysis
Drive business development and market expansion, building strong relationships with utilities, developers, ISOs/RTOs, and other industry stakeholders
Guide long-term grid planning initiatives and provide executive technical oversight to ensure high-quality, innovative solutions
Build and lead high-performing multidisciplinary teams, mentoring engineers and strengthening organizational expertise
Ensure operational excellence across study execution, project delivery, resource planning, and financial performance
Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, organizational growth, and client success
Represent the organization externally in client engagements, industry forums, and strategic partnerships
The Experience We're Looking For:
1015+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in transmission/distribution consulting
Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams and business units
Deep knowledge of transient stability, EMT, harmonics, power system modeling, and simulation software
Experience managing technical studies and scripting-based automation of simulation workflows
Proven track record of building client relationships and leading technical teams
Familiarity with industry tariffs, power system standards, and regulatory frameworks
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to craft technical reports and presentations
Excellent interpersonal, delegation, and problem-solving skills
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
Must be willing to travel up to 25% across North America
Comfortable working across multiple time zones and supporting remote teams
Bonus Points For:
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
Experience launching or scaling new consulting service lines
Engineer-in-Training or P.E. license
Familiarity with techno-economic modeling and commercial strategy in power systems
Track record of publishing in technical journals or speaking at industry events
Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian power markets and grid interconnection processes
Experience with conflict-of-interest management and data security in consulting environments
