Historic Preservation Specialist

Assist with the inspection of historic structures, sites and landscapes to determine physical condition, evaluate and report findings and maintains plans, records, photographs and original field notes.
Under guidance, prepares detailed drawings for and designs missing portions of structures to be restored; and prepares plans and specifications for conventional restoration and preservation projects.
Plans, schedules, supervises and directs construction for historic preservation work; prepares and procures appropriate materials, craft specialists, period-appropriate tools, etc.
Responsible for the documenting results of historic structure investigations, contract specifications, scope of work statements, and providing detailed specifications for carrying out maintenance activities; and writes technical reports.
Physical Demands: The work consists of a mixture of sedentary and physically demanding labor. Digging, lifting, and carrying may occur fairly often.
Working Conditions: The work of this position is performed both in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office, as well as outdoors under varying and extreme climatic conditions. Work is performed in, on and about deteriorating historic structures, which may be hazardous. Hard hats and safety shoes may be required at times at construction sites, and other personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, respirators, earplugs, safety belts, etc., may be required whenever necessitated by the specific assignment. The incumbent may be subject to soiling from dirt and lubricants, insect and snake bites, cuts, and bruises.
