Position Overview
Sitework Designer 2 – One‑Year Contract (July 31, 2026 through July 30, 2027). Birmingham, AL based with remote work and periodic site visits. Travel up to 25% of time, including overnight stays when required.
Key Responsibilities
Produce civil grading design drawings for transmission projects in Alabama and Mississippi.
Design civil projects for electrical substations with limited supervision.
Prepare layouts, conceptual designs, and material takeoffs to support lead design engineers.
Review and evaluate work of other group designers and drafters.
Develop project scope definitions, provide schedule input, and assist with cost estimates.
Coordinate with internal design groups, external clients, vendors, and contractors.
Provide technical support and field guidance for transmission substation projects.
Maintain accurate project scoping and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local permitting requirements.
Support all construction activities related to the civil aspects of electrical substations.
Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Technical training or certifications preferred; Autodesk certification highly desirable.
Minimum 5 years of experience in civil site drafting and design.
Solid experience in grading design, erosion control design, hydrology, and storm water design.
Prior experience in construction estimating and construction administration is a plus.
Proficient user of AutoCAD Civil 3D (current version).
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent organizational and technical writing skills.
Ability to process survey data to create 2D/3D surfaces and contours.
Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of Federal, State, and local permitting in Alabama.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills with priority management for multiple projects.

Physical Requirements & PPE
Field work may involve bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting and walking on gravel or crawling when necessary. Required PPE for field visits: hard hat, steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, hi‑vis vest.
