Our curriculum prioritizes real-world experience that empowers students to build vibrant careers in music and effect change in their communities.

The Artist-Teacher of Flute position is a unique opportunity for an educator who wants to be part of this mission. We’re looking for a mentor and guide who can help students discover their artistic identities as they develop the skills, artistry, and passion needed for a multi-faceted, entrepreneurial career.

Longy is seeking applications for a flute faculty member who is a leader and a coach, who sees the potential in every student. Candidates should have the skills needed to help students develop their interests and curiosity, prepare a graduate recital, and embark on a career. The candidate’s own career should include diverse music‑making experiences and projects.

Job Responsibilities

Creatively incorporate the Longy mission into private lessons: "to prepare musicians to make a difference in the world."

Actively recruit high-level graduate flute students to Longy.

Attend graduate student admission auditions, student juries, dress rehearsals, and recitals and provide professional feedback.

Take steps to raise the profile of the Longy School and its Instrumental Studies Department.

Propose and teach courses outside of studio lessons if desired, when opportunities arise.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess an outstanding record as a teacher and performer and must have followed a multi-faceted career path. A degree in music or demonstrated equivalent is required.

Please submit your resume, cover letter, and any supporting materials directly through Longy's ADP Career Portal. Applicants who do not address the specific Longy mission and vision in their cover letter will not be considered. Longy’s priority deadline for this role is March 31, 2023.
