Freelance Assistant Sweater Designer

We are looking for a Freelance Assistant Sweater Designer at a top fashion company in New York, New York. This role supports the design and development of women's and men's sweater/knitwear collections from concept through production. The designer will partner closely with merchandising, technical design, and production teams to deliver commercially viable product aligned with seasonal direction.

Pay

Hourly pay rate up to $27.00 based on experience

Responsibilities

Assisting with sweater design concepts (yarns, stitches, patterns, silhouettes)

Creating technical flats and design sketches in Adobe Illustrator

Supporting tech pack creation and sample development

Participating in fittings, tracking revisions, and managing timelines

Collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams and overseas vendors

Required Qualifications

1+ years of experience in apparel design, preferably knitwear/sweaters

Strong Adobe Illustrator skills (Photoshop and PLM a plus)

Solid understanding of knitwear construction, yarns, and sampling

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
