Location Sound Mixer - YouTube Original Production

Dragonfruit · Los Angeles, CA, USA ·

Job type:
Freelance

Role Overview
Dragonfruit Media is seeking a highly skilled Freelance Location Sound Mixer for a fast-paced, 1-to-2 day YouTube edutainment shoot for our client, n8n. Working in practical, uncontrolled environments (e.g., rented Airbnbs or offices), you will be responsible for capturing pristine, broadcast-quality audio. This includes wiring talent with lavaliers, operating a boom microphone, mixing multiple audio tracks on the fly, and mitigating ambient noise to ensure dialogue is crystal clear for cinematic post-production.

Key Responsibilities

Audio Capture:

Wire talent with lavalier microphones and operate a boom mic simultaneously to ensure clean, isolated dialogue.

Live Mixing:

Monitor and mix multiple audio tracks on location, adjusting levels dynamically during unscripted or highly energetic challenge moments.

Acoustic Troubleshooting:

Quickly identify and mitigate ambient noise issues inherent to practical locations (e.g., HVAC systems, refrigerator hums, street noise in an Airbnb).

Sync & Redundancy:

Coordinate with the Director of Photography to ensure camera scratch audio is clean and, if applicable, manage timecode sync or slate claps for seamless post-production editing.

Wild Tracks:

Record necessary "room tone" and wild sound effects on location to assist the post-production team in the cinematic edit.

Who You Are

Prior on-set experience in film, commercial, or digital content production

You quickly adapt, flag any issues to the Director, and find a solution.

You own and operate a professional, broadcast-quality audio package (multi-track mixer, wireless lavalier systems, and boom microphone).

You have a hyper-focused ear for dialogue clarity and understand the critical importance of capturing clean audio for high-end cinematic edits.

You communicate seamlessly with the DP to ensure clean scratch audio and timecode sync, and you keep the AD informed of any technical delays.
