Job Summary
The Liturgical Violin Accompanist supports the parish's music ministry by providing instrumental accompaniment that enhances the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. Under the direction of the Director of Music/Liturgy, this position collaborates with clergy, cantors, choir members, and other musicians to provide prayerful, high-quality music that encourages the full, conscious, and active participation of the assembly.
Job Responsibilities
Provide violin accompaniment for assigned weekend Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, and seasonal liturgies, including Christmas, Holy Week, and the Easter Triduum, as scheduled.
Attend and actively participate in rehearsals with cantors, choir members, and other instrumentalists as needed.
Independently prepare all assigned music, including practicing liturgical repertoire, learning new Mass settings, and performing specialized arrangements.
Collaborate effectively with the Director of Music/Liturgy, clergy, cantors, choir members, and volunteer musicians to ensure quality liturgical celebrations.
Perform obbligato, descants, melodic lines, and other instrumental parts that support congregational singing and worship.
Maintain familiarity with Catholic liturgical music and hymnals, including Gather, Source & Summit, and contemporary Catholic praise and worship selections.
Support a reverent and prayerful worship environment through professional musicianship, punctuality, and appropriate conduct.
Perform other music ministry duties as assigned by the Director of Music/Liturgy.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal training in violin performance or equivalent experience preferred. Previous experience performing in a church, liturgical, or ensemble setting preferred. Ability to sight-read music and perform independently or collaboratively. Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and sacred music, or the willingness to learn, preferred.
