Job Description
PeaceHealth is seeking a Manager Coding – Hospital Coding for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE day position. The salary range is $46.27 – $69.41, with hiring rate dependent on education, training, work experience, collective bargaining terms, seniority, and other factors.

Job Summary
Manages the daily operations of a designated coding team to ensure diagnoses and procedures are accurately collected, coded, and documented in compliance with PeaceHealth coding regulations, legal, and accreditation requirements. Leads the team that carries out daily coding operations.

Essential Functions

Supervises caregivers involved in hospital coding to ensure timely and accurate coding of inpatient and outpatient records, monitoring quality and training.

Manages staff hiring, evaluation, promotion, coaching, counseling, performance appraisals, and other personnel actions.

Develops, implements, and communicates compliance policies for evaluating input, coding, sequencing, and providing accurate data for ICD and CPT coding; resolves coding discrepancies with vendor management.

Monitors potential risk exposure related to coding practices, responds to non‑compliance issues, and participates in reviews with internal and external auditing organizations.

Improves coding and documentation practices to optimize revenue capture; assists in planning and controlling budgets for personnel, capital equipment, and operations.

Develops and deploys educational programs on coding compliance for relevant personnel.

Conducts trend analyses of coding and reimbursement profiles to identify patterns and variations needing investigation.

Provides support to caregivers regarding use of and policies for 3M computer‑assisted coding product.

May manage the denials/appeals process for coding and clinical validation related to DRG downgrades.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years medical coding experience.

Minimum 2 years leadership experience.

Credentials:

Registered Health Information Administrator, Certified Coding Specialist, or Registered Health Information Technician.

Skills:

Exceptional interpersonal skills; proficiency with software applications that impact coding functions; thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT4/HCPCS coding systems; familiarity with MS-DRG, APR-DRG, AP C reimbursement systems; advanced MS Office skills (preferred); experience with 3M (preferred); experience with Epic EMR.

Requires close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, transcribe, view a computer terminal, and read extensively.
