Summary
Lead the day-to-day technical operation of the Fabrication Shop, coordinating project schedules, monitoring shipping and receiving of materials and exhibitions, and ensuring on-budget delivery of complex exhibit projects.

Responsibilities

Establish project deadlines and schedules, coordinate all phases of the shop’s production work, and oversee projects’ timely and on-budget execution.

Provide instruction, transparency and guidance to shop staff; serve as coach, facilitator and negotiator.

Work closely with SIE leadership and project managers on exhibition design and production, focusing on exhibit fabrication.

Interpret scopes and technical specifications for exhibit fabrication, produce material take‑offs, and manage purchasing schedules to support timely fabrication.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS‑11, defined as leading and executing complex museum exhibit projects through pre-production, fabrication and installation, mentoring staff, and integrating CAD/CAM software into fabrication workflows.

Major study in illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design or related fields; graduate study or advanced training in the same areas is creditable.

Pass a pre‑employment background investigation; may need to complete a probationary period; must maintain a bank account for direct deposit and, if applicable, register with Selective Service.
